Bonneville County is named after Captain Benjamin Bonneville, a French-born U.S. Army captain who explored the area around the Snake River during the 1830s. In the 1860s, a settlement began along the river and went on to become Idaho Falls.
Gold was discovered in the Caribou Mountain area in 1870, sparking the county’s only gold rush. Boom towns sprouted up, including Caribou City and Keenan City. Billy Clemens, a cousin of the legendary author Mark Twain (whose real name was Samuel Clemens), served as the postmaster of Caribou City for five years in the 1890s.
Bonneville County has 32 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some notable Bonneville County natives and residents include:
“We are very pleased with Fall River Propane. This fall we installed a standby generator. The service technicians ran a new propane line to the generator, answered all our questions, went out of their way to help us, and installed a new 1,000-gallon tank. Everything was professionally done, and we highly recommend Fall River Propane!” – Ron M.
“I would often run out of propane until I signed up as an automatic delivery customer of Fall River Propane. Now I don’t have to worry, I never run out, and Fall River Propane makes sure I get the lowest price for propane.” – Bryan K.
