Propane FAQs

Local codes dictate how your tank should be placed and should always take precedence. That
said, there are some general safety guidelines.
  • The tank’s filling connection and fixed maximum liquid level gauge vent connection (and relief valve, for
underground tanks) should be at least 10 feet from any source of ignition or intake to a direct-vented gas
    appliance or mechanical ventilation system.
  • All parts of the tank should be at least 10 feet from any important building or the line of any adjoining
    property.

You can access a helpful illustration of tank placement regulations here.

We do not recommend allowing your fill level to drop below 20 percent. If you do run out of
propane, we will be required to do a leak test. Additionally, unless you are on automatic delivery, we generally
need five working days to schedule a propane delivery. If you request an emergency call outside of this
timeline, you will be charged an off-route fee.
Propane tanks have a gauge located at the top of the tank underneath the lid or sometimes,
it’s also connected to the side of your home. Be sure to look very carefully as the gauge is sometimes difficult
to read. When you have the percentage, multiply it by the size of your tank (in gallons) to estimate the amount
of propane you have left in your tank. Remote tank monitors are also a great way to keep tabs on your fuel
level.

Without an established history of delivery to your tank, it is difficult to answer this
question. It depends upon several factors, including the BTU rating on your heating system, whether you have a
fireplace, stove and/or other appliances, the square footage of the area you are heating and the insulation
factors in your home.
We can absolutely deliver if you own your tank. However, before we enter into an agreement,
we will first need to do a FREE leak test on your system to ensure there are no leaks or other problems. If we
don’t find any issues, we will begin your fuel delivery. If we detect leaks or any other problems, we will
repair them, at your request. The labor cost for tank repair service is $90 per hour, which does not include the
cost of any parts that might be required.
Legally, we cannot fill a tank that you are leasing from another supplier. However, we make
it very easy to switch to Fall River Propane and are known for our hassle-free process. We take care of everything, from removing their
tank, installing ours and transferring any remaining propane from the old to the new tank. We would love to
welcome you to the Fall River Propane family!
